Design and Planning
The initial step of the systematic process must be a careful design and scheduling. A geometrical precise drawing is compulsive an is automatically provided in the course of computer aided design (CAD). BAMBUTEC has developed dedicated tools to remarkable improve the design process and such proceeding production soon after.
The simple wire frame as a basic geometry is very easy to create, and already defines the important parameters of the structure. The static analysing software is using the wire frame as input and such the structure can be statically checked and improved at an early stage. The form and looks of a building after that is now completed by including the joints and rods in real dimensions as solids associated by cladding, roofings, windows, doors etc..

Manufacturing joints
The outlines of the jointing elements including all data for identification are plottet or printet to paper in original size and pastet on the joint material. In this way the joints can be sawed to size with very low efforts. Alternatively the joints can be shaped on NC-machines. After the outline is done the fittings for imserting the rods are machined on the dedicated BAMBUTEC joint milling machine according to the data provided by CAD.

Manufacturing poles
The poles separately get round shaped teeth on both ends, which fit precisely to the complementary machined jointing elements. This way a large correlated surface is provided for bonding which causes the extreme high strength of BAMBUTEC joints. Machining the poles simultanously on both ends in a single Chucking is essential to achieve precise coaxial alignment of the fittings. Therefore even natural buckling logs can be used for technical structures leading to precise geometrical results.

Assembly
Finally the connections becomes firm due to the application of adhesive. The resin is dispensed to the grooves of the correlated fittings. Special tools are used to spread the adhesive to a uniform film on all connection surfaces. The exact tolerance between the fittings assure precise contact with glue on all correlated surfaces. The adhesives used by BAMBUTEC are certified according to EN-standards. Otherwise with very good results even natural adhesives like casein is applicable.
During curing each joint and pole is kept in position with a centrical tight fitted pin. BAMBUTEC is using also threaded metal pins which can be used to tighten the joints in axial direction during curing. the counter thread of the pins on both ends of a pole results in this tightening effect while simply rotating the pole. After the curing time, typically 8 to 24 hours, the structure can take full load.
